You can learn to fly today!

We have a large number of volunteer flight instructors who are ready and willing to help you get you in the air. If you already have a relationship with one of our instructors, you can find their contact information on our Instructor Contact Information page. If you do not yet have a relationship with one of our instructors, please contact Brian Rickman, our chief instructor. He will help you find an instructor who understands the type of aircraft you wish to learn to fly.

Please note: New pilots must have any new aircraft inspected by one of our instructors in a workshop setting before the first flight of the aircraft at one of our fields.  Please contact Brian Rickman, our chief instructor, to arrange a pre-flight inspection and meet an instructor before you bring your new aircraft to the field.

Instructor Nights - Wednesday at Bill Martin Field in Medfield - from about 5pm until dusk, except for club meeting nights!  Makes a great mid-week break.  Please confirm both for weather conditions and to make sure you have arranged with an instructor who can be there on the night you'd like to attend.  See you at the field.

CRRC Building and Flight Training Instructors

We have Flight Instructors who specialize in Electric powered planes, Fuel powered planes, Helicopters, and Sailplanes (non-powered gliders). We also have Building Instructors who can help you get that new plane ready for your first flight.

If you are an experienced pilot and would like to volunteer as a CRRC flight instructor, please contact Brian Rickman.

THE CRRC BUDDY BOX PROGRAM
CRRC has an active, FREE flight instruction program for our members, and we urge beginners to take advantage of it. Crashes can often be avoided if the instructor and student have a transmitter and buddy box hooked together. That way, the instructor can instantaneously take control when the situation warrants. This instant response is especially valuable with fast flying gas-powered planes. In order to encourage the use of buddy boxes, the club will do the following:

  • CRRC will provide each student with a buddy box and cord compatible with his transmitter (4-channel radios only). If we don't have an appropriate buddy box in the inventory, the club will buy one for the student.
  • The student will pay a deposit for the buddy box and cord. The deposit will be no more than the $25 to $45 cost of the appropriate buddy box. The student, not the instructor, keeps possession of the buddy box and cord and brings them to the field along with the compatible transmitter.
  • CRRC will refund the deposit when the student returns the buddy box and cord.

If you would like to have a " buddy box" to match your transmitter, please contact  Brian Rickman to make arrangements.
